OLD NEWS IS STILL GOOD NEWS, SO PICK YOUR YEAR: 200320022001200019991997

"OZONE" GOES TO PAY-PER-VIEW (11/27/98): Tempe fans in Baltimore, Maryland get a special treat this month as J.R. Bookwalter's OZONE debuts on TCI Cable's pay-per-view roster. OZONE fans can also check out star James Black in theatres everywhere as one of Kurt Russell's cronies in SOLDIER...and who can forget Jimmy B. getting punched out by George Clooney in last summer's OUT OF SIGHT? Seems like OZONE fever is brewing, and plans are afoot for a new digitally-remastered version of the movie to debut in mid-1999 on VHS and DVD. But for now, TCI fans can check their local listings and watch the "classic" version of OZONE in all its glory...!

MINOR SITE UPDATE (11/21/98):
Added new Links and updated the Full Moon Pictures section. Updated THE DEAD NEXT DOOR page to include artwork for new German-dubbed release.

TEMPE SELLS VIDEO OUTLAW DIVISION (9/27/98):
Tempe Entertainment today announced that effective September 1st, 1998 it has liquidated its Video Outlaw line of product. The division, known for shot-on-video movies "so bad there oughtta be a law," is being sold to Tempe's former partners at E.I. Independent Cinema. The deal includes the liquidation of 12 titles: DEAD IS DEAD, GOBLIN, PREHISTORIC BIMBOS IN ARMAGEDDON CITY, THE WITCHING, SORORITY BABES IN THE DANCE-A-THON OF DEATH, DOMINION, ZOMBIE RAMPAGE, BIMBOS B.C., NIGHTMARE ASYLUM, EDGAR ALLAN POE'S MADHOUSE, REDNECK COUNTY FEVER and REANIMATOR ACADEMY. Tempe's sale to E.I. includes all domestic and foreign rights as well as the logo and name "Video Outlaw," which E.I. plans to continue selling the no-budget movies under.

MORATORIUM TIME (9/27/98):
In the wake of its announcement to sell Video Outlaw (see above), Tempe Entertainment is announcing that, effective January 1, 1999, it will discontinue all sales of its Tempe Press books as well as some of its low-end video releases. Tempe Press will discontinue all three of its popular books by J.R. Bookwalter (ATTACK OF THE B-MOVIE MAKERS, B-MOVIES IN THE '90S AND BEYOND and B-VIDEO DISTRIBUTION) at the author's request. Bookwalter also made the decision to discontinue all sales of its remaining Video Outlaw-style features (ZOMBIE COP, KINGDOM OF THE VAMPIRE, GALAXY OF THE DINOSAURS and OUTLAW DRIVE-IN VOLS. 1 & 2, which include HUMANOIDS FROM ATLANTIS and CHICKBOXER, respectively). All titles except the two OUTLAW DRIVE-IN volumes are available at a special "blowout" price of $9.95 from now until January 1st. (OUTLAW DRIVE-IN is discontinued effective immediately.)

MINOR SITE UPDATE (9/26/98):
Added new Links and Full Moon Pictures section. Updated ROBOT NINJA page to include artwork for new German subtitled release.

DUBBED IN GERMAN? (9/19/98):
Tempe Video recently inked a new exclusive distribution deal with Germany's Screen Power Home Entertainment for the release of THE DEAD NEXT DOOR, SKINNED ALIVE, OZONE and BLOODLETTING. Screen Power will issue a PAL-format VHS edition of THE DEAD NEXT DOOR in time for Christmas '98. This version will be cut by the German censors (a first for the internationally-acclaimed underground classic), along with the other titles, which will be released throughout 1999. Tempe and Screen Power will also be jointly producing uncut, unrated laserdisc and DVD special editions of the movies, beginning with DEAD in March, 1999 (see below for more info). These editions will be manufactured by Laser Paradise, with Screen Power handling German sales and Tempe Video importing the discs for the U.S. The VHS versions will be dubbed in German language; the laser and DVD versions will feature both English and German languages. Look for more news to follow soon, along with exciting news of a joint co-production between Tempe and Screen Power for a new Bookwalter feature!

STILL MORE FULL MOON UPDATES (9/19/98): Tempe recently expanded its partnership with Charles Band and Full Moon Pictures. Band and post-production supervisor J.R. Bookwalter have completed construction on their new 8th floor sound studio, the first such studio in Full Moon history! It features two state-of-the-art Pro Tools digital workstations as well as a spacious ADR/Foley booth.

Here's the scoop on a blow-by-blow basis:

FILMONSTERS! - Coming to home video October 20th, 1998 are two featurettes: WEREWOLF REBORN!, directed by Jeff Burr (LEATHERFACE), features post sound, CGI and title/opticals by the Tempe team. It stars Ashley Cafagna (SAVED BY THE BELL), Robin Downes (BABYLON 5) and Len Lesser ("Uncle Leo" on SEINFELD). FRANKENSTEIN REBORN!, directed by Julian Breen (PREHYSTERIA 3), was edited by J.R. Bookwalter, Don Adams & Harry James Picardi and completely post-produced by Tempe. It stars Jaason Simmons (BAYWATCH) and Ben Gould (SAVED BY THE BELL). Both 35mm productions were lensed at Full Moon's studios in Romania.

THE KILLER EYE - The flagship release from Full Moon's new Pulp Fantasy Productions, coming to home video in December. This Richard Chasen-directed feature was entirely post-produced by Tempe at their new Full Moon 8th floor studios. EYE boasts over 220 computer-generated effects shots...that's nearly 1/3 of the shots in the entire 72-minute feature! The dazzling imagery was created by David A. Wagner and John R. Ellis.

SUBSPECIES 4: BLOODSTORM - Coming to home video in November, this is the eagerly-awaited fourth episode in writer/director Ted Nicolaou's popular series that combines the SUBSPECIES and VAMPIRE JOURNALS worlds. David A. Wagner and John R. Ellis contributed some fantastic CGI work to this one! Look for a DVD release day-and-date with the VHS home video.

VERONICA 2030 - Our first foray into Full Moon's erotic Surrender Cinema line, directed by Gary Graver and edited by our own H.J. Picardi. Entirely post-produced at Tempe's new 8th floor digs. It also features cool CGI work from David A. Wagner. Home video release coming soon.

HIDDEN BEAUTIES - Directed by Dan Golden (STRIPTEASER) and edited by Don Adams, this is the second Surrender Cinema show to be entirely post-produced by Tempe.

BLOOD DOLLS - Directed by Charles Band himself, this feature is being produced in conjunction with music producer Miles Copeland (I.R.S. Music founder, The Police manager). Even more bizarre, a feature-length documentary on the making of the film is being directed by Penelope Spheeris (WAYNE'S WORLD). And the whole post-production shebang is being supervised by J.R. Bookwalter, Harry James Picardi and Ariauna Albright! This one is being finished on film for theatrical screenings around town. More details on both the feature and the documentary soon!

Just in case you missed them on home video, SHRIEKER and CURSE OF THE PUPPET MASTER (the movies that ushered in our new relationship with Full Moon) are now playing on pay-per-view and will begin the rounds of pay cable soon. CURSE will also be issued on DVD in December. Look for more Tempe-Full Moon news on our new dedicated web page soon!

TEMPE ACQUIRES PAST PRODUCTIONS (9/19/98):
Tempe Video recently acquired worldwide rights to two of their past productions, out of circulation since their initial release in 1990 by Cinema Home Video. SKINNED ALIVE, produced by J.R. Bookwalter and featuring FROM DUSK 'TIL DAWN 2 director Scott Spiegel in a hilarious lead role, is getting the deluxe treatment in 1999. A letterboxed special edition version will be available on VHS, laserdisc and DVD by summer '99, with a brand-new video transfer from the original 16mm negative. The laserdisc and DVD editions will feature commentary by producer Bookwalter, special makeup effects artist David Lange and other principals, and all versions will include a trailer and behind-the-scenes featurette. GHOUL SCHOOL, produced in New Jersey and featuring cameos by Joe Franklin and Jackie "The Joke Man" Martling (of Howard Stern fame), is currently being shopped for a distributor and will be available in a limited-edition VHS-only version from Tempe Video until then. Look for original motion picture soundtrack CDs coming soon!

In other news about our past productions, our new friends in Germany will be releasing a ROBOT NINJA special edition on VHS, laserdisc and DVD in 1999. The special edition will be produced with the assistance of director J.R. Bookwalter, which will include a trailer, all-new "making of" featurette and much more. Tempe Video will be exclusively importing the laserdisc and DVD versions for sale in the U.S. More news to follow!

YET ANOTHER FULL MOON UPDATE (5/30/98): The Tempe gang is movin' on up...to the swanky new 8th floor offices at Charles Band's Full Moon Pictures, located smack dab in the middle of Hollywood, U.S.A.! J.R. and Charlie Band recently inked an exclusive post-production deal for the remainder of 1998 (and beyond?) which also includes Mr. Bookwalter's debut as a director for Full Moon in the months to come!

There's a whole slate of stuff going on, so here's the update:

FRANKENSTEIN REBORN! - Episode #2 of FILMONSTERS! (see below). J.R. Bookwalter edits, and Tempe provides sound, CGI, titles, opticals and online work. Pending the FILMONSTERS! series sale, both WEREWOLF and FRANKENSTEIN REBORN! may debut on home video this Halloween.

TALISMAN - Contrary to our last update, J.R. Bookwalter didn't have the time to edit this promising Victoria Sloan feature shot back-to-back with FRANKENSTEIN REBORN in Romania. Tempe provides sound, CGI, titles, opticals and online work. TALISMAN debuts in late August with a DVD release to follow soon after. We regret to report the recent death of TALISMAN special makeup effects artist Mark Williams, whose work with Full Moon also included SHRIEKER, CURSE OF THE PUPPET MASTER, FRANKENSTEIN REBORN! and the forthcoming BLOOD DOLLS. A good friend who will be missed by the entire Full Moon/Tempe staff.

KRAA! THE SEA MONSTER - With GODZILLA fever hitting, Full Moon unleases their own monster-stomper on July 4th, 1998. This Aaron Osborne effort features fabulous sound and CGI work by the current Tempe/Fat Cat Post gang (including CGI maestro David A. Wagner and sound wizards Don Adams and Harry James Picardi).

CURSE OF THE PUPPET MASTER (Now available) - This Victoria Sloan feature debuted on video May 26th, 1998. J.R. Bookwalter edited with his Fat Cat Post handling the sound and CGI work, titles and opticals. Features ADR cameos by Bookwalter and Ariauna Albright. The feature shipped a record number of units for Full Moon since they broke away from Paramount Home Video, and establishes the Tempe gang as key members of the new Full Moon! (A full one-half of the units shipped went directly to Blockbuster Video under a new direct deal with the home video giant.) CURSE debuts on DVD in late September--a movie whose picture and sound was completely finished at Camp Tempe.

Also on deck for Full Moon this year is post work on THE KILLER EYE, MURDER CYCLE, BLOOD DOLLS and TOMB OF THE PUPPETMASTER...!

FULL MOON UPDATE (3/29/98): Has it really been since mid-November that we posted an update on Tempe's work with Charles Band and Full Moon Pictures? Well, here's an update:

SHRIEKER - J.R. Bookwalter edited this feature from newcomer Victoria Sloan that debuted on video March 3rd, 1998 and should be hitting Cinemax later this year. Tempe also provided post sound and CGI work.

CURSE OF THE PUPPETMASTER - Also known as PUPPETMASTER 6, this Victoria Sloan feature debuts on video May 26th, 1998. J.R. Bookwalter again edits with more sound and CGI work, titles and opticals. Features ADR cameos by Bookwalter and Ariauna Albright.

WEREWOLF REBORN! - The first 45-minute episode of Full Moon's forthcoming TV series FILMONSTERS, directed by Jeff Burr (LEATHERFACE, EDDIE PRESLEY, PUMPKINHEAD 2). Tempe formed a new division called Fat Cat Post (thusly named for J.R.'s cat Gumbo) who provided sound and CGI work as well as titles and opticals.

CLOCKMAKER - Directed by Christopher Coppola (yes, from the same family!), Tempe's Fat Cat Post is currently hard at work on sound, CGI and scratch removal work for this kids' feature to be released on the PulsePounders label. (Tempe also contributed some scratch removal to three other PulsePounders features: THE SECRET KINGDOM, SHRUNKEN CITY and PHANTOM TOWN.)

FRANKENSTEIN REBORN! - Episode #2 of FILMONSTERS!, just wrapped in Romania from Victoria Sloan. J.R. Bookwalter edits, and Tempe provides sound, CGI, titles, opticals and online work.

TALISMAN - Another Victoria Sloan feature shot back-to-back with FRANKENSTEIN REBORN in Romania. J.R. Bookwalter again edits, and Tempe provides sound, CGI, titles, opticals and online work.

Also on deck for Full Moon this year is post work on MURDER CYCLE, BLOOD DOLLS, SUBSPECIES 4 and many others. Stay tuned for more information, right here!
