"EDDIE PRESLEY" IS LEAVING THE BUILDING 3 MONTHS FROM TODAY!
Tempe fans have probably heard rumblings of a drama/comedy called EDDIE PRESLEY
which has bounced on and off of our release schedule for the last couple of
years. Believe it or not, we acquired the film in early 1999 and over the course
of the last 5 years have gradually been planting the seeds of the film's
release. And all of that hard work is about to pay off at long
last!
EDDIE PRESLEY is a down-on-his-luck ex-Elvis
impersonator. With his days of former glory performing in small to medium-sized
clubs behind him, he’s stuck in a dead-end security job, making barely
enough to live out of his van. But Eddie’s luck is about to change when
he’s offered a comeback gig at a seedy Hollywood nightclub...until he has
a breakdown on stage and gives the audience a powerful, improvised performance
they’ll not soon forget.
Based on
the stage play by star Duane Whitaker (FROM DUSK ‘TIL DAWN 2), EDDIE
PRESLEY is a bittersweet drama in the tradition of THE KING OF COMEDY and ED
WOOD, with plenty of satirical jabs at politics and life at the bottom of the
entertainment food chain. Featuring an all-star lineup of genre favorites, Tempe
DVD is proud to bring this cult classic from director Jeff Burr (STRAIGHT INTO
DARKNESS, LEATHERFACE) to home video for the first time ever, complete with
commentary from the filmmakers!
On May
11th, 2004, EDDIE PRESLEY arrives on DVD in three flavors: our very first 2-Disc
Special Edition ($29.99 SRP), a single-disc edition ($19.99 SRP) and a twin-pack
of the single edition paired with the cult oddity TOWNIES ($24.99 SRP) as part
of a "Festival Star Power" package.
Did
we say "festival"? Why, yes we did.
EDDIE
PRESLEY features a veritable who's who of genre stars, including some pretty
high-powered cameos. While this is definitely not a horror film, most everyone
associated with EDDIE has done some pretty recognizable work in that genre,
making this release of interest to our die-hard fan base as well as a new
audience who will be introduced to Tempe DVD for the first
time.
Let's start with writer/star Duane
Whitaker...most folks will remember him from his infamous PULP FICTION role as
the pawn shop owner Maynard, but Duane was also the co-writer/co-star of FROM
DUSK 'TIL DAWN 2: TEXAS BLOOD MONEY and has been seen in a long list of other
genre films including TALES FROM THE HOOD and NIGHT OF THE SCARECROW, not to
mention a role as the creepy doctor in our own production of William Shatner's
GROOM LAKE.
Director Jeff Burr is no
stranger to horror films, having made his debut in 1987 with THE OFFSPRING
starring Vincent Price, followed in rapid succession by THE STEPFATHER 2 and the
theatrical release LEATHERFACE: THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE III, which recently
made its Special Edition debut on DVD. Jeff's other credits include PUPPET
MASTER 4 & 5, NIGHT OF THE SCARECROW and PUMPKINHEAD 2, and his World War II
epic STRAIGHT INTO DARKNESS is now making the festival rounds (a preview of
which can be found on all 3 versions of the EDDIE PRESLEY
DVD).
The rest of the EDDIE cast will not
disappoint genre fans, either: Clu Gulager (RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD), Stacie
Bourgeois (FROM DUSK 'TIL DAWN 2), Ted Raimi (EVIL DEAD 2), Willard Pugh (THE
HILLS HAVE EYES PT. 2), R.A. Mihailoff (LEATHERFACE), Tim Thomerson (TRANCERS),
Joe Estevez (HELL ASYLUM), Chuck Williams (HORRORVISION) and John Lazar (BEYOND
THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS) are also on hand, joining veterans such as Roscoe Lee
Browne (BABE), Daniel Roebuck (THE FUGITIVE) and Lawrence Tierney (RESERVOIR
DOGS).
Oh, and did we mention the film
also features "lost" cameos from KILL BILL director Quentin Tarantino and BUBBA
HO-TEP star Bruce Campbell? The deluxe $29.99 SRP 2-Disc Special Edition
includes over 2 hours of extras including additional outtakes of Tarantino and
Campbell, plus a hilarious tribute to cantankerous silver screen tough guy
Lawrence Tierney:
